Our Mission Statement

Our Story

Why It Matters?

What We Do?

 Compassion in Action,

Healthcare for All.

United Mission to Africa (UMA) is a nurse-led, non-profit organization founded in 2020, in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic—a time when even the world’s most advanced healthcare systems were brought to their knees. The organization was born out of both urgency and compassion, driven by the lived experience of its founder, Apelete Sani.

As a frontline nurse during the pandemic, Apelete cared for and treated hundreds of patients battling the Coronavirus. Day after day, he stood at the bedside of those fighting for their lives—bearing witness to both suffering and resilience. The pandemic exposed an uncomfortable truth: if well-resourced nations could be so vulnerable, what hope did underserve African communities have in the face of such health crises?

It was in that moment of clarity, amid loss, chaos, and reflection, that UMA was created.

Recognizing the immense vulnerability of African communities—not just to COVID-19, but to a wide range of preventable and treatable diseases, Apelete founded UMA with a singular vision: to bring free, accessible, and compassionate healthcare and healthcare education to the people who need it most. What began as a personal mission has grown into a movement committed to dignity, compassion, and action

What We Do?

Why It Matters?

What We Do?

 One mission. One village.

One life at a time.

At United Mission to Africa (UMA), we organize medical missions to Togo and across the African continent—delivering free health services, promoting essential healthcare practices and education, and strengthening the foundation of local healthcare infrastructure.

Our mission is more than medical—it’s about empowering communities. We aim to build local resilience and awareness, ensuring that every community we serve is better prepared to care for themselves and to face not only today’s health challenges but also future epidemics and emergencies.

Through every mission, every patient, and every act of care, we work to restore hope, preserve dignity, and affirm that health is a basic human right—not a privilege.

Be the reason someone gets the care they thought would never come.

Whether you're a healthcare professional, a generous donor, or a passionate advocate for global health, there's a place for you in our mission.

When you partner with United Mission to Africa (UMA), you’re not just giving time, money, or expertise—you’re giving hope to a mother, relief to a sick child, and dignity to an entire village.

Together, we are building a world where no one is denied care because of where they live or what they earn.

Why It Matters?

Why It Matters?

Why It Matters?

Healthcare is not a privilege

 but a human right

Millions across Africa continue to face avoidable suffering and death from preventable and treatable conditions—such as malaria, infections, malnutrition, and chronic illnesses—simply because they lack access to basic healthcare. For many, a clinic is miles away, medicine is unaffordable, and health education is out of reach.

In these underserved communities, a child can die from a fever, a wound can become life-threatening, and a pregnant mother may not survive childbirth. These are tragedies that should not happen in our world today.

At United Mission to Africa (UMA), we believe that healthcare is a human right—not a privilege reserved for the wealthy or well-connected. Every person, no matter where they are born or how much they earn, deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life.

We exist to deliver hope, healing, and humanity where it’s needed most. Our work brings not only medical treatment but also dignity, empowerment, and compassion to those who have long been forgotten by larger systems.

This is why we go.

This is why we serve.

Because every life matters,

and no one should be left behind.
